OBITUARY:
ROUSES POINT — Former Rouses Point postmaster and honored volunteer fireman, Willard Aubrey, 94, of Rouses Point, passed away, but not from our hearts, on May 23, 2009.
Born on Oct. 27, 1914, to Henry Aubrey and Laura (Lafountaine) Aubrey, Willard was predeceased by his 10 brothers and sisters: infants Leo and Mabel Grace; brothers Thomas Orville, twins Remie and Renie; sisters Pauline Albright, Pearl Prairie, Hazel Shepard, twins Rita Shapiro Haggarte and Rena O'Toole; and a special nephew, Armand Langevin.
Willard resided his entire life in Rouses Point and was well-known because he had a long, fulfilling journey. He had many tales to tell and pursued his interests with endless energy. While he had his health, it was difficult to keep up with his pace, even though everyone else was a "young fella."
In his earlier years, Willard graduated from Rouses Point High School but never gave up his quest for knowledge. He enjoyed reading, especially about science and history, and became self-educated on many topics. He really loved to tinker, and it was said he could fix anything. Willard repaired many old tube televisions in the area, often refusing to take any payment.
Willard's first job in the early 1930s was as a movie projectionist at the Kennedy Theatre (Lyceum) in Rouses Point. At that time, batteries were used to run the projectors. Later that decade, he was appointed fire warden on the first bridge to Vermont. He began a career with the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier and was named postmaster in 1965, a position from which he retired in 1978.
A U.S. Army veteran, Willard enlisted and served in the Pacific as a sergeant until his Honorable Discharge in 1946. He was a patriotic American, and one of the last things he was able to do was to replace the flag pole at his home.
Around age 80 and unwilling to rest in his retirement, Willard decided to start his own business and became sole proprietor of Aubrey Excavating and Trucking.
His hobbies were many, but he particularly enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Sportsman's Club. He became an accomplished billiard player, many times (up to age 90) winning area tournaments for his team. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8722, American Legion Post 912, Knights of Columbus andnow-dissolved Lion's Club in Rouses Point.
Willard joined the Montgomery Hose, Hook and Ladder Company (the volunteer arm of the Rouses Point Fire Department) on Oct. 7, 1935. He served as fire chief in 1952, and for many years was active in the organization of Rouses Point's annual Fourth of July celebration. It was indeed a humble, proud moment when he was honored for 70 years of service in 2006, receiving awards of recognition from area dignitaries, local organizations, the N.Y. governor, legislature, senate and president of the United States. He was equally as proud of his fellow firemen, also given recognition for their dedication to the department, and said, "The fire company is very comparable to a family."
Willard is survived by his wife of almost 62 years, having married Gloria Longtin from Mooers Forks at St. Mary's Church in Champlain on June 7, 1947. He also leaves a son, Jeffrey; a daughter, Rhonda of Plattsburgh; a nephew, Macy Shapiro of Mexico; and several other nieces.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at St. Patrick's Church in Rouses Point, followed by interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Clark Funeral Home of Champlain.
 He will truly be missed.

OBITUARY:
Gloria Aubrey, 90, of Rouses Point passed away on Friday, March 30, 2018 with family at her side. She was born June 15, 1927 to Archie and Mary (Meseck) Longtin of Mooers Forks, the youngest child of a large clan.
Her early childhood was spent on their family farm where she learned a love of animals and hard work. Upon entering school, she spoke only French and graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Champlain.
Throughout her young life, Gloria held various jobs. From being a theatre usher, to making artillery shells at age 15 in Cohoes, N.Y. during WWII, her favorite job was at Anctil's Restaurant where she made many life-long friends. Later in life, after everyone else was retired, she was employed by Globe International.
She married Willard Aubrey on June 7, 1947 and shared 62 years with him until he passed in 2009.
Gloria is predeceased by all 13 siblings; brothers, Edward, Herman, Stephan, Francis, Archie, and Joseph Longtin; and sisters, Clara (Abare), Mary "Cordelia" (Demers), Valena (Smith), Myrtle (Bechard), Lydia (Kaup), Delia (Sutherland), and Gail (Therrien).
Survivors include her two children, Jeffrey Aubrey of Champlain and Rhonda Aubrey of Plattsburgh; numerous nieces and nephews of whom two were particularly dear to her, including Rita Oliver and Ranella Therrien.
Gloria was an active community member before her health began to fail and continued to live life with determination and a sense of humor. She served as Democratic Party chairman for a few terms, was a member of the Altar Rosary, and also chaired the Catholic Daughters. She spent many years afterwards as a home-maker and dedicated mother, battling illness for 30 years. Gloria was known as one tough lady.
She loved her many cats and watching old movies. Springtime was special to her and most of the time you could find her tending the flowers and garden. Family was always first and she proved it by a caretaker for her brother, sister, and husband after they were unable to do so themselves.
Gloria was a generous person, recently helping to finance a new floor for the Senior Center in Rouses Point when the need arose.
The family thanks Hospice for all they have done.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick's Church in Rouses Point, N.Y. on Thursday, April 5th at 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity or perform an act of kindness in her memory.
Arrangements are in the care of M. B. Clark Funeral Home in Champlain.
