Staff Sgt. Ringey In Bomber Group
15th AAF in Italy -- Staff Sgt. Ralph G. Ringey, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter I. Ringey of 28 Meadow Lane, Pittsfield, Mass., and husband of Mrs. Barbara Ringey, same city, is an aerial gunner with a B-24 Liberator heavy bombardment group which has flown over 350 combat missions.
The group has bombed many of the high priority targets in Nazi-held Europe and the Balkans. Strategic installations in Regensburg, Munich, Klagenfurt, Steyr, Wiener Neustadt, Budapest and Vienna have been attacked with excellent results.
It has been twice cited by the President of the United States; for its strategic support of the Allied forces in the Middle East; and for the low-level attack on the Ploesti oil fields, August, 1943, which severely crippled German refineries. The group is the oldest one operating in the European-African-Middle Eastern theatre.
Sgt. Ringey attended Pittsfield High School and received his wings at the Yuma Army Air Base, Arizona, Feb. 10, 1944.
For his many missions flown over enemy territory, the veteran airman has been awarded the air medal, purple heart, European-African-Middle Eastern theatre ribbon, and is authorized to wear the distinguished unit badge plus one cluster.

BIOGRAPHY:
Solon is the son of Enoch Hayes (1763-unknown) and Mercy Holcombe (1763-unknown). He is the father of Solon Hayes and Edward Hayes.
Solon's birth date is unknown. In Rev. Charles Wells Hayes' 1884 Hayes family genealogy "George Hayes of Windsor", Solon is listed as the fourth son but no birth years are given. Solon Hayes can be found in US Census records as a head of household in Simsbury, Hartford, Connecticut in 1810, 1820, and 1830. Although only the number of males and females by age category are reported it is possible to determine that Solon was probably born between 1781 and 1784.
The source of Solon's death is also from Rev. Hayes' "George Hayes of Windsor" where on page 96 it states that Solon "d. Folwer, O., 1844." But no burial records have been found so the cemetery is not known.
