OBITUARY:
CUT ALL TO PIECES WHEN HIT BY TRAIN
OSCAR HODLIN, RAILROAD MAN, KILLED NEAR BEARMOUTH - REMAINS BROUGHT HERE
The crew of the Missoula-bound Butte local yesterday discovered beside the track near Bearmouth the mutilated body of Oscar Hodlin, formerly a conductor on the Great Northern and Milwaukee railroads, it is believed.
Hodlin had been struck by a train earlier in the morning, either the Butte-bound local or No. 42. The head and one leg were completely severed from the trunk and were found rods away by the track. The train crew was forced to search for some time before completing the grisly task of collecting the remains. The body was brought to Missoula.
Papers in the dead man's pocket indicated his identity. Among them was one showing service for the Great Northern in October and November 1912. At this time, Hodlin was 27 years of age. In 1913, papers showed, the dead man worked in British Columbia for the Northern Construction company. On August 28, 1914, he took, in Malden, Wash., an examination for service with the Milwaukee railroad.
An attempt will be made to locate relatives.
