Robert E. NICHOLS

OBITUARY:
 Robert E. Nichols Sr., 72, of 4 Riverside Circle, Nashua, died Saturday morning, Aug. 16, 2003, at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua after a lengthy illness.
  Mr. Nichols was the son of the late Wesley E. and Myrtle (Webster) Nichols. He had lived in Nashua for the greater part of his life but lived in Milford during his early years.
  He was the husband of Ruth E. (York) Nichols, with whom he celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary June 16.
  Mr. Nichols had worked at the former Maynard Machine Shop and then was employed with the former Improved Paper Machinery Co. on Burke Street in Nashua, where he was a machinist and later quality-control foreman. He retired from the company after 22 years of service.
  He was active in civic and fraternal organizations and was a past governor of the Loyal Order of Moose; was a lifetime member of Nashua Lodge No. 720, Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks; and held memberships in the American Legion Post 48 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5791, both of Hudson.
  He served with the Army National Guard from March 21, 1953, to March 20, 1956.
  Mr. Nichols attended elementary school in Milford and them completed his education in Nashua, graduating from Nashua High School in 1949.

Ruth Elizabeth YORK

OBITUARY:
 Ruth Elizabeth Nichols, 79, of 207 Brennan Street, Manchester, widow of Robert E. Nichols, and formerly of Nashua, died Saturday morning, October 9, 2010 at the Villa Crest Nursing Home in Manchester, after a period of declining health.
  Mrs. Nichols was a daughter of the late Jesse A. and Harriet J. (Dudley) York. She was educated in local schools and had been employed as a machine operator at the Chardon Rubber Company.
  Ruth and her husband were married June 16, 1951 and made their home in Nashua for many years. They had shared nearly 52 years together before Mr. Nichols death on August 16, 2003.
  One of ten children, Ruth was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Nichols; and three brothers, Jesse A. Jr., Richard M. and Robert K. York.

Jane Parker Gagne, 70, of 5 Kimberly Ave., Turners Falls, died Monday at Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield. She was a cook at the University of Massachusetts, and retired in 1996. She was previously a cook at the Linden Hill School in Northfield. Born in Mont Vernon, N.H., she attended schools in Northfield and Milford, N.H. She belonged to the Greenfield Moose Club and the Ladies Benevolent Society of Northfield Farms, and was active in area singles clubs. She leaves her husband, Alphonse Gagne at home; a son, Andrew Garello of Sturbridge; a daughter, April Parker Rapelye of Northfield; a niece, Jean ("Susie") Vaine of North Carolina, whom she raised; a brother, Win J. Nichols of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Doris Boggis of Nashua, N.H.; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. A calling hour will precede the funeral Thursday morning at Kidder Funeral Home, with the burial in Farms Cemetery, both at Northfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin County Hospice, 164 High St., Greenfield, 01301.

  TURNERS FALLS - Jane Parker Gagne, 70, of 5 Kimberly Ave., a university cook, died yesterday in Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield.
 She leaves her husband, Alphonse Gagne; a son, Andrew Garello of Sturbridge; a daughter and a niece whom she raised; a brother and sister; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was born in Mont Vernon, N.H., and attended school in Northfield.
 Mrs. Gagne worked as a cook at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and at Linden Hill School in Northfield, retiring in 1996. She was a member of the Greenfield Moose Club and the Ladies Benevolent Society of Northfield Farms. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, playing cards and crafts.
 The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Kidder Funeral Home, 1 Parker Ave., Northfield. Burial will be in Farms Cemetery, Northfield. The calling hours will be 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Franklin County, 164 High St., Greenfield, MA 01301.
