During World War II, he was a pipefitter in the South Portland Shipyards, working mostly on Liberty Ships. He also worked about seven years as a pipefitter in the former Goodall-Sanford Textile Mills, working at both the mills on River Street and at Mill Square. In the 1940s he worked at the former A&P Store in Springvale, and most recently worked at the former Lovell's Pharmacy.
Born in Waterboro, a son of Francis H. and Gertrude Andrews Hamilton, he attended Waterboro schools and was a graduate of the former Waterboro High School.
He lived at 4 Roosevelt Street and was a member of Pleasant Street Free Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythias, the Odd Fellows, the Waterboro High School Association, and was a 60-year member of Waterboro Grange.
