vol. 1, no. 3, March, 1867

Died, at the residence of her son-in-law, J. W. Knowles, in Gibson county, Ind., Dec. 29th, 1866, Sister Rachel Carter, aged, seventy-six years, three months and one day.  Sister Carter was raised in Bath county, Ky., where she joined the regular Baptist Church in the fourteenth year of her age.  She shortly afterward joined the Christian Church, of which she remained a member until her death.  In her fifteenth year she was married, and removed to Tennessee, thence to this State in 1813, where she remained up to the time of her death.
Although she suffered greatly during her illness, she maintained to the last her unswerving confidence in her Savior, praying to be released from the sufferings, that she might go home to her eternal rest.  Though she has left many friends to mourn their loss, yet the sorrow not as those who have no hope.  May we all strive to meet her where sorrow and sighing shall flee away, and friends shall be parted no more.
