Edith Iva Hanson

OBITUARY:

  Edith "Iva" Deming, 88, of 822 South Wayne St., died at 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, at a daughter's home in Fort Wayne. She had been ill for the past 2 1/2 years and death was attributed to cancer.

  Born Jan. 23, 1916 in Minneapolis, Minn., to Nils Edwin and Esther Elvira Constance Fridman Hanson, she married Gerald E. Deming in Hudson, Wis., Nov. 28, 1935. He preceded her in death April 17, 1977.

  A resident of Wells County for 54 years, she was a homemaker and a member of the First Church of Christ where she was a member of the For Others Mission Circle and the Seekers Sunday School Class. She provided child daycare in her home for many years and was a member of the Scandia Club of Fort Wayne for over 40 years and of the Poplar Grove Economics Club for more than 50 years.

  She is survived by a son, John E. Deming, of Fort Wayne; three daughters, Mrs. Bill (Joye Denise) Gardenour of Bluffton, Mrs. Donald (Judith Ann) Higgins of Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Larry (Jerilyn Kay) Sheets of Lima, Ohio; two sisters, Inez Sharpe of Bemidji, Minn., and Lois Hein of Roswell, N.M.; 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

  A son, James E. Deming, preceded her in death Feb. 9, 2002.

  Services at 11 a.m. Thursday will be at Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home under the direction of Revs. Chris Higgins and Rick Sheets and Pastor Larry Sprinkle.

  Burial will follow at Six Mile Cemetery.
 Calling hours at the funeral home will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to services Thursday. memorials may be made to the Parkview Hospice of Fort Wayne, the Gideons or the First Church of Christ.
